A Warning about Cheap Roofing Contractors’ “Cost-Cutting” Methods

With roofing contractors, YOU TYPICALLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR (perhaps more-so than in any other industry).

At first perception, one may possibly believe American Roofing isn’t the absolute lowest-priced roofing contractor. However,  unlike many roofing contractors, we refuse to “cut corners” to give you the false impression of offering you the “best deal” or estimate.

Cutting corners usually ends up costing you more in the long run when unexpected leaks force you to … not only pay for proper repair of the roof, but repair of the resulting interior damage, too!

Cutting corners in roof repair and roof replacement is “penny-wise and pound foolish.” However, it’s an all too common practice with “cut-throat” roofing contractors.

For example, many roofing contractors fail to:

  • Replace the step flashings where the roof adjoins the siding.
  • Install metal valley flashing of sufficient width to meet the 24-inch minimum width requirement.
  • Install saddles on chimneys that are 30-inches or wider.
  • Install 2-plies of underlayment beneath shingles on roof slopes less than 4-in-12.
  • Apply mastic along sides of metal valley flashings.
  • Clip the top corner of shingles at roof valleys.
  • Provide snow resistant / bird proof roof vents.

The above examples of “cutting corners” are common place, and can even cause roof leakage!

Sadly, many homeowners don’t realize the deep level of craftsmanship & specific materials actually required to provide a good roof installation.

Just about any roofing contractor can fasten roofing materials to a roof deck. Few actually have the expertise to furnish the appropriate materials and install them correctly, especially where the roof adjoins siding, chimneys, skylights, vent pipes, roof vents, and valleys.

A high percentage of roofing contractors who are paid to install roofing materials fall into this category.

Compare American Roofing to other roofing contractors. We have dozens and dozens of references you can check out for yourself.

Asking the right questions is the key to selecting a professional roofing contractor you’ll be relieved you hired.

Ask if the roofing contractor is:

  • Fully licensed in your local area to perform roofing work
  • Adequately insured for your protection
  • Has a proven reputation for providing quality roofing services throughout the community
  • Committed to ongoing professional training to ensure quality installation
  • Planning to pull the proper permits
  • Willing to guarantee their work in writing.

Find good roofing contractors in the Denver, Colorado region can be a challenge, however, by choosing American Roofing, you’ll be assured you’re dealing with a quality, reputable, dependable and professional roofing contractor who will do your roof right.
